Gait training is a very important part of the rehabilitation process, whether it is from a simple sprain or whether it is after a major surgery. Our bodies are meant to move in a very efficient way, and when we make small or large changes to those walking mechanics, it can wreak havoc on our bodies.
Pacific Physical Therapy has therapists who are functional movement experts, and part of that training is in recognizing gait impairments. We often find that when we have pain in our back or in our lower extremities without a specific injury, it is due to a gait impairment.
Many conditions can affect gait, but specifically limited range of motion in the foot and ankle, poor balance, and decreased strength in the hips are some of the most frequent causes and each present differently when watched by an experienced therapist. This allows them to quickly diagnose the cause of your gait impairment which is often also the cause of pain in many instances.
At Pacific Physical Therapy, our goal is to “Restore Function” which means getting you back on your feet and moving pain free.
